Scion XB 2010
The 2010 Scion xB ranks 11 out of 31 Affordable Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 72 published reviews and test drives of the Scion xB, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.
While it won't wow you with gas thriftiness or a luxurious interior, the xB is still square, safe, affordable and a little funky. The 2011 xB is in the showrooms, so you can probably snag a deal on a 2010.
Since it was first introduced in 2003, the Scion xB has been wooing car shoppers with its low pricing, abundant utility and devil-may-care style. In fact, many writers credit Scion as the automaker that started the boxy hatchback trend. Throw in its smorgasbord of aftermarket features, and the Scion xB quickly became one of the most appealing hatchbacks on the market.
Six years later the xB's novelty has worn off; and with it, some of reviewers' positive feelings. While the 2010 Scion xB still holds its boxy dimensions, agreeable pricing, and tuner-cred, more square designs have been introduced -- hatchbacks that are generally considered more affordable, comfortable, fuel efficient and fun to drive. Still, the xB has one thing going for it -- it's a 2010 Insurance Institute for Highway SafetyTop Safety Pick. That's a big feather in the xB's cap, since only seven small cars earned the honor this year.
